Åndria Linn’s passion for art revealed itself before she was two years old. On no particular kind of morning, she began a trail of lines and squiggles that began at the edge of her crib and traveled all the way around the nursery, out the door and down the hallway, making the most of all she could reach on those military-white walls of base housing. From that point on, she was never without proper materials for venting her artistic desires on far more appropriate canvases. Åndria gives much credit to her instructors and the classes she mastered during her schooling. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and attended classes part-time while in Chicago. Yet, she feels most influenced by her life experiences, her many travels and the varied communities she has lived all around the country. Through intricate and complicated relationships she developed a strong sense of self and a unique perception of the world around her. She developed many different job skills as well that contributed to her artistic flare and expression. Her schooling and work have covered many areas, including floral design and arrangement, stage design and production, backdrop painting for photographers, faux-finishing and wall murals for private homes and businesses; on more personal levels she has taught children art and creative expression. Much of the sensitivity in her work is due to the strong connections she made with her grandparents as they struggled with very difficult end-of-life issues. Though at the time she was very young and distracted by other avenues in her own life, she listened and learned intense lessons on human aspects of living and dying. Rather than turn her head to follow her own pursuits, she became a close friend and confidante to her grandmother and cared for her every day during the last years of her life. These experiences imprinted her emotions in such degree that her work today is greatly influenced by those years of love, joy, grief and sadness experienced during that time. Andria participates in most of the areas juried art festivals,Durham's Spring and Fall Artwalk, local coffee bars and restaraunts, and numerous other art events. For more details on upcoming shows please see her "Coming Events" page and "Resume". She contributes her work regularly to various charities during their fund-raising campaigns and stays involved with local community efforts. On first impression, many of her pieces may seem whimsical and simple, but as they are studied, it becomes apparent that something much deeper is present than just the face of the canvas. Her work is eclectic and multifaceted. She continually has new styles, color schemes and subject matter. Her originality makes her work unique and personal. It is her desire that as she expresses herself and her emotions through her art that her audience will connect to the visual experience in their individual ways, perhaps reliving a memory or becoming aware of emotions within themselves that may lie buried beneath the busyness of their own lives. Åndria takes full advantage of space and as a piece is studied, smaller areas of art reveal themselves to become part of the entire canvas—paintings within paintings. Her art reveals a strong sense of self-connection, influenced by local landscapes, and shows qualities that are deeply spiritual, intricate and complex, yet with a sense of simplicity and purity. Åndria currently resides in Durham with her husband and three cats. She enjoys using her entire home for a canvas of interior design and her yard for a visual landscape of artistic expression as she loves to garden and be out-of-doors. Please come and visit her at a show sometime. She'd love to meet you. |
